FAQS on Brow lift

FAQS on Brow lift

What is a Brow lift?
A brow lift, also known as a forehead lift, is a plastic surgery procedure used to elevate the brows. As a person ages, the brows begin to descend. As this descent continues, the brow skin will sag into the upper eyelid skin. This will add to the heavy appearance that patients may have in the upper eyelid/brow complex. There are several techniques used to perform the brow lift procedure, and the surgeon will help you decide which works best for you.

Who is the best candidate for a brow lift?
Good candidates for a brow lift procedure include men and women who are physically healthy, realistic in their expectations, and looking to improve the appearance of a sagging brow or deep furrows between the eyes. Most patients that undergo the brow lift procedure are fifty years and older.

What happens during a consultation for a brow lift?
The surgeon will personally meet with you during the consultation. He will examine and evaluate you. He will then show you before and after pictures and then explain the surgical procedure from beginning to end. This explanation will include what surgical technique he will use, where the surgery will be performed, what type of anesthesia, and a step-by-step explanation of what the recovery will be like. You will then meet with the patient care coordinator, who will explain the scheduling details and the cost.

Where is the brow lift procedure performed?
The surgeon performs the brow lift procedure in his clinic or his affiliated hospital.

What type of anesthesia is used during a brow lift?
The surgeon performs the brow lift procedure with IV sedation or with general anesthesia. He will help you determine which is best for you.

How is the actual brow lift procedure performed?
There are three techniques that the surgeon uses to perform the brow lift procedure. The first one is the endoscopic technique, where small incisions are used along with a small camera, to elevate the brows. The second is the coronal technique, where an incision is placed on the scalp. The third technique is the mid-forehead technique, where the incisions are hidden in the forehead creases. This technique is usually reserved for men. The surgeon will examine you and help you decide which is best for you.

How long is the surgical time for a brow lift?
The surgery will take about an hour to perform the brow lift procedure.

Where are the incisions made for a brow lift?
The incisions for the brow lift depend on which technique is used. The small incisions for the endoscopic technique are placed inside the hair. The coronal technique has an incision inside the hair, and the mid-brow lift has incisions hidden in the horizontal forehead creases.

Are there scars after a brow lift?
The incisions for the brow lift are all well concealed and are not noticeable, no matter what technique is used.

Is there much pain with a brow lift?
Patients may complain of a slight pressure in the forehead after the brow lift. This typically lasts a few hours and resolves the first night. Pain medication will control the discomfort.

What is the recovery like after a brow lift?
The recovery for the brow lift is rather mild. The surgery is ambulatory, meaning that the patient is allowed to return home the same day of the surgery. The post-operative period is relatively painless, except for a mild pressure in the forehead for about two hours after surgery. The patient returns to the surgeon clinic in the morning following surgery. The surgeon will then remove the dressing check the incisions. The patient then returns on the seventh post-operative day for the sutures to be removed. Seventy percent of the swelling resolves in the first week. The remaining thirty percent resolves over the following three weeks. Patients experience little to no bruising after the brow lift procedure.

How much time will I need to take off from work after my brow lift?
Patients typically return to work a week after the brow lift procedure.

When can I exercise after my brow lift?
The surgeon recommends that his patients avoid strenuous exercise for three weeks following surgery

When are the stitches removed after the brow lift procedure?
The surgeon will remove the sutures after seven days.

What are the risks or complications associated with a brow lift?
Some of the potential risks associated with the brow lift procedure may include infection, bleeding, scarring, nerve injury, and poor healing. These are very rare incurrence.

FAQS on Rhinoplasty

What is rhinoplasty?
Rhinoplasty, or cosmetic nasal surgery, is a plastic surgery procedure that improves
the shape and size of the nose. The procedure can remove a hump, change the shape
of the nasal tip, and straighten the nose. Occasionally, the size and shape of the
nostrils can be changed. The goal of rhinoplasty is often to achieve better harmony
between the nose and the other facial features and, often times; even the slightest
alteration can greatly improve a patient's appearance. If the patient has breathing
difficulty, the surgeon may perform septal and turbinate surgery at the same time.

Who are good candidates for rhinoplasty?

Healthy teenagers and adults who wish to have an improvement in their nasal
appearance are good candidates for the rhinoplasty procedure.

Can rhinoplasty be performed at any age?
The surgeon will perform the rhinoplasty procedure beginning at age fourteen in
female teenagers and fifteen in male teenagers.

What happens during a consultation for rhinoplasty?
The surgeon will personally meet with you during the consultation. He will examine
and evaluate you. He will then show you before and after pictures and then explain
the surgical procedure from beginning to end. This explanation will include what
surgical technique he will use, where the surgery will be performed, what type of
anesthesia, and a step-by-step explanation of what the recovery will be like. You will
then meet with the patient care coordinator, who will explain the scheduling details
and the cost.

Where is the rhinoplasty procedure performed?
The surgeon will perform the rhinoplasty procedure in his clinic.

When performing rhinoplasty, what type of anesthesia is used?
The surgeon can perform the rhinoplasty procedure with local anesthesia

How is the actual rhinoplasty procedure performed?
The rhinoplasty procedure can be performed via one of two approaches. They are the
open (also called external) and the closed (also called endonasal) approach. These are
simply approaches, which mean the way in which the surgeon will have access to the
internal structures of the nose. Once the surgeon has access to the internal structures,
he will work on the bridge of the nose. He will make the bridge straight, if needed,
and then narrow the bridge if needed. He will then proceed to change the shape if the
tip if needed. At the end of the procedure, the surgeon will place a splint to help the
nose heal in the proper shape.

How long does the actual rhinoplasty procedure last?
The surgeon will take about one to two hours to perform the rhinoplasty procedure.
Revision rhinoplasty may take longer.

For rhinoplasty, where are the incisions made?
The surgeon will perform the rhinoplasty procedure using either the open or closed
approach. If the open approach is used, a small incision in the columella is made. This
incision heals very well and will not be noticeable once it is fully healed. The closed
approach is performed with incisions inside the nose. The surgeon will discuss with
you what the best approach is for you.

Should I expect to experience much pain with my rhinoplasty procedure?
Most patients that undergo the rhinoplasty procedure experience a mild pressure
above the nose for about two hours after the procedure. From thereon after, the
patients do not experience any pain.

What is the recovery like after rhinoplasty?
The recovery for rhinoplasty is rather mild. The patient is allowed to return home
after the procedure. The post-operative period is painless, although pain medication is
usually given in case the patient has some discomfort. The surgeon will see the patient
in his office the morning after surgery. Most patients that have the rhinoplasty
procedure with the surgeon do not have “black and blues” over their eyes. They may
have some swelling, which usually resolves in five days. The patient returns to the
office on the fifth post-operative day. At that point the splint is removed and the
patient will get a first glimpse of what the nose will look like. Seventy percent of the
swelling resolves in the first three weeks and the remaining thirty percent takes
months. The final result is at one year.

How soon after rhinoplasty surgery will I am able to return to work?
Patients are generally able to return to work about one week after the rhinoplasty
procedure.

How soon after rhinoplasty surgery will I am able to exercise?
The surgeon asks that his patients resume exercise three weeks after having the
procedure.
How soon after rhinoplasty surgery are the stitches removed?
If the rhinoplasty was performed via an open approach, the stitches will be removed
on fifth post-operative day.

What are the risks or complications that can occur with rhinoplasty?
As with all types of surgery, there are potential risks or complications associated with
rhinoplasty surgery and these may include bleeding, infection, and cosmetic
imperfection.

What is blepharoplasty?

Upper Eyelid Before And After Surgery
What is blepharoplasty?
Blepharoplasty, or cosmetic eyelid surgery, is a plastic surgery procedure that improves the upper and lower eyelids. The upper blepharoplasty is aimed at correcting the sagging skin that overhangs the upper lid. The surgery for the upper eyelids removes mostly skin and a small amount of fat from the inner corner of the eye.
The lower blepharoplasty is aimed at correcting the “bags” that form underneath the eye. The surgery can be done from an incision underneath the eyelashes (subciliary approach) or through one inside the eye (transconjunctival). The surgeon will inform you which the best approach is for you. The fat is then gently removed and a small amount of skin is the removed. The result is a natural and refreshed look.
Are there any limitations to what blepharoplasty can achieve?
Blepharoplasty refers to eyelid surgery. Many times, patient may have brows that have descended and are low. These patients may need a brow lift procedure to elevate the brows. Patients that may have puffy lower eyelids due to allergies will not achieve improvement with the blepharoplasty procedure.
Who is the best candidate for blepharoplasty?
The best candidates for blepharoplasty are healthy men and women who have sagging upper eyelids or lower eyelids that are puffy.
What happens during a consultation for blepharoplasty? The surgeon will personally meet with you during the consultation. He will examine and evaluate you. He will then show you before and after pictures and then explain the surgical procedure from beginning to end. This explanation will include what surgical technique he will use, where the surgery will be performed, what type of anesthesia, and a step-by-step explanation of what the recovery will be like. You will then meet with the patient care coordinator, who will explain the scheduling details and the cost.
Where is blepharoplasty performed?
The surgeon will perform blepharoplasty in his office-based operating room under local anesthesia with sedation.
What type of anesthesia is used for blepharoplasty?
The surgeon will perform the blepharoplasty procedure with local anesthesia with sedation when done as a single procedure. If it is combined with a facelift, IV sedation or general anesthesia, provided by an anesthesiologist (MD), may be used.
How is the actual blepharoplasty procedure performed?
The surgeon will perform the upper blepharoplasty via a small incision in the crease of the upper eyelid. This incision heals very well and will be imperceptible once healing has occurred. The skin is removed and then a small amount of muscle and fat are removed. The skin is then closed with small stitches. These are placed in a way that they can be removed without pain. The lower eyelid is performed in a different way. A small incision is made under the eyelashes. He skin and muscle are elevated, and the fat is removed. A tiny strip of skin is then removed and the muscle is then tightened. The incision is then closed with small stitches. These stitches are also placed so that they can be removed without causing pain.
How long is the surgical time for blepharoplasty?
The surgeon will perform the upper blepharoplasty in one hour and the lower blepharoplasty in one hour.
Where are the incisions made for blepharoplasty?
The incision for the upper blephroplasty is made in the natural crease of the upper eyelid. This incision heals well. The lower blepharoplasty incision is made just under the eyelashes (subciliary) or inside the eye (transconjunctival).

Are there scars that result from blepharoplasty?
The skin in the eyelids is the thinnest skin in the body. The incisions, when placed well, will heal well and be imperceptible.
Is blepharoplasty a painful procedure?
The blepharoplasty procedure is not painful. Patients typically complain of a burning sensation in the eyelids one hour after the procedure. The discomfort will generally last about 1 hour.
What is the recovery like after blepharoplasty?
The recovery for blepharoplasty is rather mild. The surgery is ambulatory, meaning that the patient is allowed to return home the same day of the surgery. The patient returns to see the surgeon at the fifth post-operative day. At that time, the sutures are painlessly removed. From that point on, any bruising will start to quickly subside. Women can wear make up after the sutures are removed. About 70% of the swelling resolves in the first 2 weeks. The remainder takes about 2 months to resolve. However, this is mild swelling that is not perceptible. Most patients are well enough to return to work by the seventh post-operative day.
When will I be able to return to work after my blepharoplasty procedure?
Patients are generally able to return to work about one week after the blepahroplasty procedure.
How soon after my blepharoplasty procedure will I am able to exercise?
The surgeon will recommend that patients do not return to exercise for three weeks after their procedure.
When are the stitches removed after blepharoplasty?
The surgeon will remove the stitches on the fifth post-operative day. The removal will be painless, as they are placed in a way that they simply slide out.
What are the risks or complications that can occur with blepharoplasty?
The potential complications that may occur with blepharoplasty include the following: bleeding, dry eyes, slight asymmetry in healing or scarring, swelling at the corners of the eyelids, temporary blurred vision, and whiteheads.
